Maine has a public hearing process for legislation, and anyone can submit written testimony — it's a straightforward way to make your voice heard. We'll use the tribal sovereignty bill as an example, and create and submit testimony before its hearing on 2/15.

Maine has a public hearing process for legislation, and anyone can submit written testimony — it's a straightforward way to make your voice heard. We'll use the tribal sovereignty bill as an example and create and submit testimony before its hearing on 2/15.

LD 1626 is a bill that enacts the recommendations of a task force regarding the state's relationship with the Wabanaki people. Lane Sturtevant, the League's organizer, will discuss the details of the bill (you can check out more information from the Wabanaki Alliance here) and go over the process of submitting testimony or signing up to speak at a public hearing.

Our Wabanaki allies have asked us to prioritize this hearing, and our Youth Council members have told us they're interested in racial justice work. This is a perfect opportunity to learn about the process and have an impact on it at the same time.

This event is open to all ages!
